Who I am
My name is Michael Barthelemy and I am a 2024 graduate from the Northwestern University Medill School of Journalism. I am a journalism major with an international studies minor and an Integrated Marketing Certificate. Currently, I work as a Production Assistant at the Marquee Sports Network and Big Ten Network.

At Marquee, where I also served as an intern in 2023, I refined my production skills in a professional environment. I primarily work in the media software AVID to create logs for the company game and advertisement catalogues and build out video sequences for various highlight segments on the pre and postgame programs. Additionally, I have led statistical research and original content projects across the production and digital media divisions to provide novel content for on-air. This was most notably seen in reporting on Northwestern football's 2023 game at Wrigley Field. I conducted one-0n-one interviews with Northwestern football athletes and ESPN's Adam Rittenberg to curate video and print content for Marquee's online platform.

Collegiately, I earned the role of Sports Director for the university's exclusive sports broadcast program, SportsNight. I served there as an on-air personality and lead studio director. I work in play-by-play broadcasting for WNUR Sports and hosted a weekly radio show titled The Michael Barthelemy Show on the station. It is the second program I exclusively hosted, produced and edited. I previously hosted the weekly video show series NU Takes for the Northwestern Athletics blog Inside NU.

Through my extracurricular activities at Northwestern, I was trusted to cover the 2022 Aer Lingus Classic in Dublin, Ireland, the 2023 Women's College World Series, 2023 Las Vegas Bowl, and the 2022 and 2023 Big Ten Men's Basketball Tournaments, amongst other events.
This opportunity at SportsNight followed a three-month stint in Johannesburg, South Africa as a crime reporter for the Daily Maverick. I specialized in international and city print reporting, a stark contrast to my sports background that heavily enhanced my abilities as a journalist and storyteller.
I truly carved out my sports journalism skills as a Media Intern for the Chicago Dogs, a professional baseball team a part of the American Association of Professional Baseball, in 2022. There, I worked as a reporter, videographer and social media manager for the team. Through exclusive access to every aspect of the organization, I produced over 75 pieces of team content. This unique and amazing opportunity taught me the power of application and how through committed effort, I could refine my skills and bring my work to new heights.

I hope to one day combine my passions in sports and global geography to create stories that connect opposite sides of the planet. I believe the importance of journalism is as strong as ever before. While it is an ever-changing industry, I find the power of storytelling never dies.
